Diamonds improve to 2-0

Early Morning Warmups

Game #2 Recap: The Blue Diamonds faced their stiffest competition of the season on Saturday in a tightly contested match-up with Team Light Blue (if anyone knows the name of that team, pass it on). The Diamonds scored a goal late in regulation to steal a 4-3 win. Alyssa and Whitney continued to tear up the 8 & Under league, scoring all the Diamonds goals during the win.

The pack-ball approach seems to be evolving into a more cohesive attack. The girls made several great passes throughout the game. Christene and Samantha are speed burners who put plenty of pressure on the Light Blue defense all game.

The Diamonds defense, anchored by Melanie and Karsyn, buckled down in the second half of the game, not allowing a single Light Blue goal. Clutch goaltending by Lauren and Anna kept the Diamonds within striking distance.

Coach Hank’s halftime adjustments proved to be just what the doctor ordered, as the Diamonds played stingy defense and setup the game winner late.

Karsyn made the save of the game with seconds remaining by strategically placing her face between the ball and the goal. While her parents do not advise such daring defensive positioning, it did keep the opposition from scoring on Saturday.

As always, the Diamonds supporters were out in full force cheering on their team to victory. Pretty impressive, considering the game started at 8:30am on a Saturday. Hats off to everyone for a great game!

Note: My camera battery died at half-time, so I was only able to capture a few photos. My apologies if I missed players during the game.
